Why can you trust me as your guide?

Most probably you want to know who I am so let me introduce myself in a few words. I have always been interested in communication with people, therefore I received my Communication and Journalism degree from University of Rwanda in 2014.

Beside my native language Kinyarwanda, I speak Swahili, English and French. Since I like meeting people, talk to them, listen to their stories, I started to look for a job where I could use my skills the most.

One day, I came across a company involved in tourism which was looking for tourist guides. My communication skills, knowledge of 4 languages and the history of Rwanda, plus having a driving licence – all made it easy for me to succeed in the job interview and pass the company’s special exam.

I have been working as an accident free tourist guide since 2014, and have shown our beautiful country to many tourists coming from the UK, USA, Hungary, Germany, Kenya, Tanzania and other African countries.

Misbeliefs about Kigali

It is not true that ATM machines are not available, to the contrary you can withdraw cash from a lot of auto-tellers, there are plenty of banks as well.

It is also false information that credit cards are not accepted. You can pay with card almost everywhere. Naturally, very little shops, or street vendors cannot offer such a service.

It is misleading that Rwanda is not safe. Our country is safe, there are a lot of policemen on the streets assuring your safety. When entering shopping centers by car, it will be thoroughly checked, even the bottom of the vehicle will be scrutinized with a mirror. If you walk into a bigger store, you have to go through a metal detector and your luggage will also be tested, as if you were entering an airport. Of course, you should exercise normal degree of caution as you would any time.

Some useful information on Rwanda

Rwanda tourist visa: Effective from 01 January 2018, nationals of all countries will get tourist visa upon arrival without prior application which costs 30 USD and is valid for 30 days. You are not entitled to work if you come with tourist visa.

Rwanda currency: If you pay in cash, you can use USD, or the local currency called Rwanda Franc (RWF). When leaving the country from Kigali International Airport, you can convert your remaining RWF to USD at the bank located on the 1st floor.

Vaccination: Before traveling to Rwanda, you are advised to inquire about vaccination. The government of Rwanda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if travelling from a country with risk of yellow fever or a country with an active yellow fever outbreak. Pregnant women should not travel to Rwanda because Zika is a risk there.
